P3-Y2-L5-Arjuna Vishad Yoga – 1.34 to 37

Bhagawadgita 1.34 to 37:

āchāryāḥ pitaraḥ putrās tathaiva cha pitāmahāḥ
mātulāḥ śhvaśhurāḥ pautrāḥ śhyālāḥ sambandhinas tathā

etān na hantum ichchhāmi ghnato ’pi madhusūdana
api trailokya-rājyasya hetoḥ kiṁ nu mahī-kṛite

Gurus, fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles, grandsons, and all my own kinsmen are standing here by putting their lives at stake. Even if they want to fight with me, I don’t want to kill them. He says, even if I win three worlds (winning three worlds is the greatest achievement in the whole cosmos. So he is uttering that word here to convey the intensity), by fighting this war, when I don’t have my own-men, what is the point in fighting this war.

nihatya dhārtarāṣhṭrān naḥ kā prītiḥ syāj janārdana
pāpam evāśhrayed asmān hatvaitān ātatāyinaḥ
tasmān nārhā vayaṁ hantuṁ dhārtarāṣhṭrān sa-bāndhavān
sva-janaṁ hi kathaṁ hatvā sukhinaḥ syāma mādhava

Arjuna further continues saying, Oh the caretaker of the living beings, by killing the sons of Dhritarastra, what pleasure do we get? They are aggressive, but still if we kill them, we will definitely get sin. So we will become responsible for their killings, so how can we be happy by doing so? He says.

Here, Arjuna is including Lord Krishna also by saying the word “WE”. He is making Shree Krishna also responsible for their killings and thus he says, Shree Krishna also will commit sin by doing so.  Dharma is like a sword that is sharp on two sides. Dharma says do not harm other beings. Dharma also says, you cannot keep quite when some adharma is happening in front of your eyes. Dharma also says, if dharma gets in trouble, the divine will definitely work to eradicate the adharma and in that process, the divine will go to any extent of destruction. When the divine does it, the culture or the environment or the lives will reboot afresh with the dharma falling in its place.

Normal men by having the eye of the society and the physical world, they start saying dharmik (righteous) words such as “do not harm others” and so on. These words come out of blindness that cannot see the truth in the spiritual realm. So normal people to cover their wrong actions, they start using these one sided dharmik words such as “do not harm others”, by not having the spiritual eye. They utter all these coward words to escape the situation, to cover their cowardice, to cover their adharma, to cover their weak traits, fears and attachments.

Arjuna, so strategically, he is including Shree Krishna also in his cowardice and blind-fold words such “sin” and all such social talks which are talked by normal men who only have social and physical eye but not spiritual eye.  He is including Shree Krishna also thinking that, Shree Krishna might get afraid by words such as “sin” and hence he might support Arjuna to withdraw from this war.

In the same way, sometimes, the Guru’s words appear to be quite radical and some men make fun of Guru’s words and they are like this coward Arjuna who have all weak traits, attachments and fears inside. This condition of disease in such people will continue for few years or even lives together if they go away from the Guru, who is their charioteer!

So in a way, Arajuna is trying to educate Shree Krishna with all his cowardice and false knowledge of opinions and beliefs. In the same way, few disciples who come to the Guru, initially they talk all this nonsense and it takes few months or years or even few lives for them. Till they remain in that frame of mind, they go away from that Guru, even if it takes few lives! It is basically the condition of their frame of mind or the eye which is formed out of physical world.

See it is such a bad condition of Arjuna, he is not able to literally see who is Shree Krishna but yet he is calling him God! At the same time, he is educating Shree Krishna! Arjuna  is totally contradictory in his words. So now Arjuna is wearing the shoes of Guru and teaching the falsehood to Shree Krishna. Let us see how long it goes on!

Bhagawadgita 1.38 & 39:

yady apy ete na paśhyanti lobhopahata-chetasaḥ
kula-kṣhaya-kṛitaṁ doṣhaṁ mitra-drohe cha pātakam
kathaṁ na jñeyam asmābhiḥ pāpād asmān nivartitum
kula-kṣhaya-kṛitaṁ doṣhaṁ prapaśhyadbhir janārdana

Arjuna continues his advises and teachings to Shree Krishna though the situation is actually his problem, now he included Shree Krishna with him. He continues saying the worldly dharmik words (that only sees the physical world dharma in social way but not having the spiritual eye) to Shree Krishna that “though the other side men (own-men), are overpowered by greed and though they do not see any sin in killing us (who are their relatives), why cannot we leave this war, as we have that great eye of seeing the SIN in killing our own-men?

Now, Arjuna’s foolish advice and teaching is further strengthening by confirming that HE HAS A GREAT EYE and HE IS SO KIND and in that he is also including Shree Krishna.  On top of this, he is calling the other side men “greedy” which is their attachment, but he is not able to recognize his own attachment. In the same way, men who talk good things (socially dharmik words that belong to the physical world), do not see their weaknesses and attachments below them, they point others!

Such worldly dharmik words come mostly from the studies of the world which are of management. Those worldly talks are good for the management of your business of life only to a certain extent but not totally useful to HOLISTICALLY HANDLE the businesses or lives.

Spiritual eye addresses the 360 degrees of the whole life in which business is also a part while the management only addresses the business or some parts of life.

So the point is our current teacher or advisor, Arjuna is not able to recognize the patches below him while pointing the patches of others! He is also so wise that he wants to show to the world that he is so KIND and DHARMIK in which he is including Shree Krishna the Guru of Gurus!

In the same way, if you observe all people in the world, almost all of them are so busy in finding faults of others as if they don’t have faults on their side. They will go to an extent of finding faults with the divine entities such as Shree Krishna and Shree Rama, Shiva and so on!
