Bhagawadgita 1.2 & 1.3:
sañjaya uvācha, dṛiṣhṭvā tu pāṇḍavānīkaṁ vyūḍhaṁ duryodhanastadā āchāryamupasaṅgamya rājā vachanamabravīt
Sanjay is explaining about what was going on at the war field (Kurukshetra): Observing the Pandava army, King Duryodhan approached his teacher Dronacharya, and said the following words.
paśhyaitāṁ pāṇḍu-putrāṇām āchārya mahatīṁ chamūm
vyūḍhāṁ drupada-putreṇa tava śhiṣhyeṇa dhīmatā
Background Story you should know: As you know Dronacharya is the Guru of both pandava and kaurava clans. When he was child he and Drupada, who was prince then studied together and they were good friends. Their fathers were also friends and thus they continued the friendship further. Drona and Drupad used to help each other as students and their relationship grew stronger as the years passed. Drupad used to tell Drona that he would give half of his kingdom to Drona. As their education ended, their lives parted and they both lead their own lives. They both get married and lead their lives. Drona would remain financially poor though he would be quite strong at art of war and weaponry. His old friend would become the king now and remembering him, Drona would go to the king’s palace to seek king Dripada’s help. But to his surprise, Drupada not only remembers his promise but he would make fun of the life and condition of his old friend. Drona would get offended by the harsh words of his proud friend and he takes the oath of taking revenge on his friend, Drupada. Later Drona becomes the Guru for both kaurava and pandavas and as Guru Dakshina he would ask them to wage war against Drupada which they would do. Though Kauravas run away out of fear in the middle of the war, Pandavas fight through the war and defeat Drupada. This is how Drona would take revenge on Drupada.
Drupada would not keep silent by this, but does spiritual rituals to gain boons from the demi gods (devatas) to avenge Drona. He would get successful in that process and gets blessed by a son named Dristadyumna, whose purpose of life is to kill Drona. As Drona was the only powerful warfare teacher those days, Dristadyumna goes to Drona (the enemy of his father, Drupada) to learn warfare. However, Drona despite knowing the fact that Dristadyumna came to him to learn the warfare which would be used against him, Drona would teach him properly all the art of war without any partiality.
As the time came to Dristadyumna, now he would stand in the army of Pandavas who are fighting against Kauravas, in which Drona is there.
Coming back to the sloka, Duryodhan says to his Guru, Drona that, see the mighty army of Pandavas and look how skillfully they arranged themselves to fight in the war, in whom your enemy’s son (Drupada’s son) Dustadyumna is also there. Look, your own disciple, Dustadyumna whom you educated the warfare is now in the enemy lines to fight against you and me.
You should understand the WICKED mind of Duryodhan here, that he is basically awakening the enmity in Guru Drona, by saying all these pinching words to Drona. He wants to awaken the sleeping anger, enmity and revenge in Drona so that he could benefit out of it. When you have anger, revenge, enemy with others, people and situations will come into your lives, who want to benefit out of you by awakening those negative elements in you. You should also understand that the positive traits would also be encouraged by others in you, which would be good for the world and the society. Bad traits are provoked by others which would result the destruction and negativity in the world while the good traits are encouraged (not provoked), to do good things in the world.
Rakshas or negativity would always be waiting to provoke your sleeping negativity in you. Rakshas are also part of the same cosmic womb of Nature whose energy is used to awaken the sleeping bugs in you and obviously though the bugs cause slight destruction to the world, at the end bugs would have to die and when the die, you will obviously be cleaned and you would learn your lessons of not committing those mistakes again!
Very simple, how holy ever you are, if you carry some thorns in you, another thorn will be used to remove those thorns in you which is the natural phenomenon and it can never be avoided in the soul evolution.
Bhagawadgita 1.4 to 1.6:
atra shura maheshvasa bhimarjuna-sama yudhi

purujit kuntibhojashcha shaibyashcha nara-pungavah

Here, Dhuryodhana is taking the names of various powerful warriors who are standing on the side of Pandavas. Names are irrelevant for the subject but the point is all about conveying the strength of the enemy side to the guru, Dronacharya, is what you need to understand.
Bhagawadgita 1.7, 1.8 & 1.9
asmākaṁ tu viśhiṣhṭā ye tānnibodha dwijottama
nāyakā mama sainyasya sanjñārthaṁ tānbravīmi te
bhavānbhīṣhmaśhcha karṇaśhcha kṛipaśhcha samitiñjayaḥ
aśhvatthāmā vikarṇaśhcha saumadattis tathaiva cha
anye cha bahavaḥ śhūrā madarthe tyaktajīvitāḥ

Dronacharya is actually a teacher of the art of war, but not really a warrior in the war. Dronacharya forcibly comes into the field, as he was actually given the shelter and opportunity by the kingdom, when he had no place to go. So though he is actually a teacher, he comes forward to fight in the war to pay back the help he received from the kingdom. A teacher is not supposed to fight in the war as warrior.
So Dhuryodhana reminds his teacher Drona that he is actually the best of the brahmanas and he if does not display his valor to the fullest, he would be considered as a cheap Brahmin who is merely interested in comforts of life. At the same time, he again boosts his morale by praising him along with other great men on the Kauravas side such as Bheeshma, Karna, Kripa, Ashwatthama, Vikran and all.
So strategically and delicately the Dhuruyodhana (Negetivity) uses his words that pinch and at the same time praise as well. He also demands Drona indirectly that he should sacrifice his life for the sake of him like all other skilled and great warriors who are ready for the war.
In a way he is asking his own Guru in a subtle way that you enjoyed all the given comforts by the kingdom and now though you are a Brahmin, though you are not supposed to fight the war, you are required to fight in the war for the sake me of me and my kingdom which has given you a great opportunity of teaching the science of war. This is how the negativity will take advantage of your virtue when you take its shelter for your survival. Meaning, your virtue is supposed to be used for the welfare of the world but rather it will be provoked to use against the world. So never take the shelter of negativity for your survival and instead, it is better to die rather which is the summit of virtue and it is always supreme. Else no matter how skillful you are, how great ever you are, one day you will fall!
