Emotions rise from your manas. The English word, mind is related to only thoughts. But manas is connected with both thoughts and emotions.

  • When some one hurts you – emotions will rise
  • When some one tries to get money from you – emotions will rise
  • When some one tries to hurt your children – emotions will rise

Hatred, Anger, Jealousy, happiness, sadness and many more emotions rise from your manas with the connection of the wrong “i”. The deeply rooted “i” in you is, your body, your house, your family, your children, your wife, your husband, your father, your mother and all those things and people who are connected to your body.

Emotions rise from your system of pool of attachments. The emotional pool has to get emptied with the expanded “i” from limited “i”. Then, the emotions will become clean. After getting rid of attachments, the emotions will become clean. Then, emotions will rise for your expanded “i”. It is called cleaning your system from Durguna (bad traits) to Saguna (good traits).

This is how you can exercise to watch your emotions. Watch a movie on TV. As you keep watching, unknowingly you will start involving in the story and you will start favoring the characters based on the story. Watch when anger is rising your system. Watch all those emotions.

As you keep practicing this way, start practicing in the real life. Watch emotions when you deal with people and situations. See if that emotion actually is attachment (for personal sake) or for impersonal sake (for world sake) they are arising from your system. For the world sake, if they are arising, those emotions are good. For personal sake, if they are arising, then they belong to your attachments.

For example, if the anger emotion arises from your system for the sake of the world, do not fight with the world. But generate thoughts in an imaginary way in the mind as if you are really fighting with the bad things in the world. Such thoughts, will manifest to fight bad things in the world.

If the emotions are arising due to attachments (of limited “i”) then, try to control them. As you keep practicing, you will start increasing your spiritual energies (against anger) that will control your anger issue. This is just an example. Like this, you can deal with various other emotions of yours.
