P5-L5-Observing Silence

P 5 – Lesson 5

Observing Silence (Moun)

It is called observing silence. Means, you just don’t remain not talking, but you also do not engage your mind in thinking various things in life.

Keep chanting Hariom and observe what kind of thoughts you get in your mind and what kind of images or visuals you get in your mind. Observe them and drop them. Do not process your mind in thinking about those thoughts and visuals.

For example, you get a thought about your father, drop it, do not process your mind to further think about your father. For example, if you get image or visual of your son or your father, drop it. Do not further process it. You do as following, when you observe silence.  You can follow these tricks while observing silence. You will not be bored by observing silence.

Observing silence gets you more peace and lets you observe your mind and adopt the practice of it. This is how yogis in Haimalayas practice their mind.

You can take up few hours of observing silence on weekends or observing silence for a total day is good. You should not engage in any other works during that time. If you engage yourself in other works then you will miss out the work of observing your mind.  Or may be if you are busy house wife or have some basic responsibilities, do all those works and then sit and observe your mind like this. Leave your cell phones, laptops and all other gadgets, books and all and sit idle and observe this way.

How make your mind still?

Trick 1

You can imagine, candle light or Jyoti in the mind and keep chanting hariom

Learn to see that candle light or jyoti as the divine. You keep remembering that image and keep remembering its name “Hariom”

Now you will observe that, in your mind, you keep getting various thoughts or visuals. Don’t process your mind after those visuals and thoughts. Bring back your mind to that candle light or jyoti. It works like pendulum of clock. The middle point of the mind is always the image of candle light. This trick is called centering your mind. This is a bit difficult to do. You can also adopt another trick as follows

Trick 2

You can imagine three or four or five images of candle lights in your mind. Mind has the habit of moving right? Then you apply that habit of mind to moving it from one candle light image to another candle light image in your mind.

For example, you have three candle light images in your mind called A,B,C and all their names are basically Hariom.

So your mind from B to A and from A to B and them from B to C and from C to B. Like that keep the mind moving from one image to another.

This way, you will engage your mind for sometime. In between various thoughts and visuals come. Do not follow them.

Trick 3

You follow the Bhavana or imagination mentioned in previous lesson.

You imagine the candle light as your dearest god – Krishna or Rama or whoever. You keep talking to that light by developing some relation with that image. The relation could be father, brother, child, mother, guru or whatever it is. Talk to him whatever you want. You will also start getting responses from it after sometime.

At least couple of hours a week, you observe silence and see how your mind starts shining and how your personality starts transforming.
